This Privacy Policy explains how Seven Riddles ("Seven Riddles," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and services at sevenriddles.com (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
The short version: We collect only what we need to sign you in, run the game, and show results. We do not sell your personal information, and we never share your mobile number or text-message consent with anyone for marketing.
Information we collect
- Phone number — used to sign you in with a one-time code by text, and to send game-related messages.
- Email address — optional backup for your sign-in code and account recovery.
- Name / team information — the display name and team details you provide when you join or run a game.
- Photos — pictures you or your team upload during a game.
- Location (GPS) — while you are playing, we use your device location to confirm you have reached a checkpoint. Location is used during active gameplay; you must allow location access to play.
- Device & usage data — basic technical information (such as browser type and a session cookie) needed to keep you signed in and operate the Service.
How we use your information
- To sign you in using one-time codes sent by text (and email as a backup).
- To run games — deliver clues and tasks, verify checkpoints by GPS, record answers and photos, and calculate scores.
- To send game-related notifications (for example, race updates or "head back" alerts).
- To display results, standings, and the post-game photo gallery.
- To keep the Service safe, prevent abuse, and improve how it works.
Text messages (SMS)
When you provide your mobile number, you consent to receive text messages from Seven Riddles, including one-time sign-in codes and game-related alerts. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP, and reply HELP for help. Opting out of texts may prevent you from signing in or playing, since sign-in relies on a code.
We do not sell or share your mobile phone number or your SMS consent with any third parties for their marketing purposes. Your number is used only to operate the Service and is shared only with our messaging provider so the messages can be delivered.
If you provide an email address, we use it to send your sign-in code when a text can't be delivered, and for account recovery and important service messages. We do not sell your email address or use it for third-party marketing.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies that are necessary to run the Service — for example, to keep your team signed in on your device. We do not use cookies to sell your data.
Photos and the public gallery
Photos you upload during a game may be shown publicly on the game's results page and photo gallery. By uploading a photo, you grant Seven Riddles the right to display and use it as part of the Service, and uploaded content becomes the property of Seven Riddles. Game organizers and Seven Riddles may hide or remove photos. Do not upload photos of people who have not agreed to appear, and do not upload anything unlawful or offensive.
How we share information
We share information only in these limited ways:
- Service providers — trusted companies that help us run the Service, such as our text-message provider (Twilio) and mapping provider (Google Maps). They may process your information only to provide their service to us.
- Game organizers — if you join a game, the organizer of that game can see your team's participation, answers, photos, and results.
- Legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of players, organizers, or Seven Riddles.
We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
We retain the information and content you provide for as long as we consider useful to operate and improve the Service, which may be indefinitely. You may contact us to request removal of specific content; some information may remain in backups or where retention is required.
Children and minors
Seven Riddles is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Minors may participate only under the supervision of and with permission from a parent or guardian, and the team leader affirms that any minors on the team have such permission (including permission to appear in photos). If you believe a child has provided information without guardian consent, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
The Service is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and we take reasonable measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
- Reply STOP to opt out of text messages at any time.
- Turn off device location — though you will not be able to verify checkpoints or play.
- Contact us to ask about or request removal of your information or content.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
